  • Overview

    Recovery Corps members serve one year making a difference in the lives of individuals who are in recovery from substance use disorders.  As a Recovery Navigator, you will help program participants one-on-one and in group settings set goals, overcome barriers to goal success, increase their skills, find gainful employment, service, or training opportunities related to their goals, and ultimately maintain progress in their recovery from substance use disorders.

     

    Site Details:

    • The Recovery Navigator will be directly part of the Recovery Support Services team, which includes 2 Peer Recovery Staff; and a part of the larger recovery supports which includes 3 other teams (probation, women and children's program, and recovery housing)
    • This position serves diverse populations, primarily African American.

    Responsibilities

     Essential Functions:

    • Support participant in ongoing implementation of individualized service, education, and/or career plan. Create an action plan that will include clear education, employment, and/or service outcomes, while identifying barriers and their solutions.
    • Track progress of plan and supports while facilitating advancement and goal progression.
    • Link support services, education/training/service providers, career and industry information, and experiential opportunities.
    • Conduct cohort workshops in group settings regularly to support participants in reaching their goals.
    • Recruit volunteers and coordinate volunteer opportunities to support participants in their recovery activities. Support program participants in finding volunteer opportunities and connecting the experience to identified goals.
    • Provide support in one-to-one settings as needed for success.
    • Work collaboratively with “service team” members, such as counselors, education providers, service programs, social services, community representatives, and employers.
    • Attend required Recovery, Leadership, and Career Development Facilitator training and other professional development activities throughout the year.

                                   

    Marginal Functions:

    • Attend service site-sponsored activities to represent Recovery Corps and conduct outreach to promote access to Recovery Corps services.
    • Research prospective employers and/or service opportunities and identify the potential for matching them with program participants.

    Qualifications

    Overall Position Requirements and Qualifications:

    • Must be 18 years of age, a US citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien, and a high school graduate (or equivalent).
    • Willingness to commit to a full term of service (1700 hours, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week for full-time members). Hours must be completed within 11 months of start date.
    • Direct or indirect experience with substance use disorders and strong connection to and understanding of the recovery process.
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with clients in both 1-1 and group settings.
    • Experience in facilitating groups preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience with intermediate computer skills (word processing, internet, data entry, e-mail, comfort with database and software use, etc.).
    • Desire to affect systems change regarding the opioid epidemic and substance use disorders at the ground level; ability to connect the small details to the bigger picture.
    • Ability to work effectively with people of different cultures and backgrounds.
    • Access to regular, reliable transportation.
